Orthodox Holy Myrtle Oil, or Holy Chrism, is a powerfully herbal blend of over 30 natural essential oils! This exact recipe has been used for centuries by the monks on Holy Mount Athos! This oil is a veritable pharmacy!

Since holy oils are used to anoint the sick, why not pour a whole pharmacy into them? This was probably the intention of the monks of Mount Athos, as Orthodox Holy Myrtle Oil contains over 30 ingredients! Of course, it includes spikenard and Damask rose, as well as myrrh and resin trees. Then there’s the aloe vera mentioned in the Gospel, and mint! Black cumin and eucalyptus, popular in the East. And most interestingly, there are as many as 12 substitutes for spikenard, including lavender. After all, no one knows for sure what kind of spikenard was poured on Jesus at Bethany.

Orthodox oil, Holy Myrtle Oil, Holy Chrism is a herbal blend that contains over 30 ingredients, mostly natural essential oils! Feel the power of the herbs hidden in the ancient recipe of the monks of Mount Athos!

Since holy oils are used to anoint the sick, why not pour an entire pharmacy into them? This was probably the intention of the monks of Mount Athos, as ORTHODOX oil has over 30 ingredients! Of course, there’s the wonderful Damask rose, as well as myrrh and resin trees. Then there’s aloe, mentioned in the Gospel, and mint! Black cumin and eucalyptus, popular in the East. And most interestingly, the monks made sure to add nard. The real one.

Orthodox oil and the True Nard

Which nard is real? We’re not the first in the history of the Church to try to figure out what Jesus smelled like. And so, what is real Nard? Although, more accurately, we should ask the question differently: which of the nards available in Jesus’ time was the one found in Bethany? After all, it could just as easily have been Alpine nard, Syrian valerian, or even lavender? Centuries ago, the monks of Holy Mount Athos conducted exactly the same investigation. And because they were unsure of the recipe, they decided to add all nard substitutes. Thus, their recipe for Holy Myrus, or Orthodox oil Holy Chrism, included dozens of scents.

The Recipe from Mount Athos

Of course, it’s not so easy to recreate ancient recipes. Especially since some substances, such as “nice scent” or “perfume from Holland,” are shrouded in mystery. Moreover, some of the ingredients are now considered hazardous, even carcinogenic – for example, calamus. Another example are powerful herbal remedies, currently completely banned due to the risk of poisoning. Finally, not all ingredients can be dosed in the same proportions as before, as they can cause allergies or even burns. For example, consider the popular cinnamon or cassia, which has a similar scent and properties. Despite these obstacles, we managed to extract over 30 ingredients, which, when blended, create our ORTHODOX oil!

Orthodox oil (INCI): Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Parfum, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil.
